In a surprising development, Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball," which was #1 for two weeks a few months ago, has returned to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, knocking off Lorde's "Royals," which had ruled for two weeks.  Why did this happen? It's all because of some dude named Stephen Kardynal.

According to Billboard, Kardynal's parody video version of "Wrecking Ball" — a nearly shot-by-shot  recreation which features him lip-synching to Miley's original version — has gone viral.  Because Billboardchanged its rules earlier this year to include YouTube streams when it calculates chart position, the frequent plays of Kardynal's video boosted the song back to the top.  It's already logged well over 66 million views.

Billboard notes that the nine weeks between the last time "Wrecking Ball" was #1 and its return to the top spot is the longest in the history of the Hot 100 for a song in its original chart run.
